menu/ DAVID STAUME

the energy-juggling metaphysician

David Staume is a philosopher, author, and screenwriter with a deep fascination for how the world works.

Born in Sydney, Australia, David moved with his family to rural New South Wales as a small child. He grew up on a property that was home to kangaroos, echidnas, bearded dragons, and an abundance of very big and very venomous snakes. This experience taught him to tread carefully, listen, and not to poke around in dark holes – lessons that have served him well in his search for philosophical truth.

Some of the principles that David has come to believe include: if you can't say it simply, you probably don't understand it; that even the most serious of subjects can be discussed with humour, and communicated all the more effectively because of it; that the source of all knowledge is nature, and that we can and should derive our philosophy from her directly; that we have developed brains for a purpose and that we should endeavour to think for ourselves; that all philosophy should be consistent with known law and vigorous to intellectual challenge; that consciousness survives death, that we live in a perfectly elastic cosmos, and that optimists will always be right – given enough time.

David is the author of two books with Llewellyn Worldwide. Both assume you are dead. The Beginner's Guide for the Recently Deceased takes you on a guided tour of the afterlife - conceptually, in detail, and with humor; it describes the Inside-Out Theory of the Afterlife. The Beginner's Guide to Sex in the Afterlife tells you everything you wish you knew about sex before you died. It describes the Circular Theory of Sexual Energy.

David lives in Sydney, Australia, with his wife, Deborah, and two children. Both he and his wife have a goal of visiting 100 countries this lifetime. With his current count at only 34, he estimates he will have to live to about a 125. He is currently writing a documentary series for television.
